With less than a week left with our neighbors whose kids have been inseparable from our own, the moms decided to bite the bullet and let the kids experience their first sleepover. Both families went out for ice cream, came home to bathe our filthy kids, and then did the switch. We walked the 20 feet to their back door, took some pictures, and then exchanged Ashlyn for Jeffrey. I don’t think Ashlyn even said goodbye to us really before darting inside their house. Drew, on the other hand, had a lot to say as he sobbed that he wasn’t invited over to sleep himself. But, he was happy to join the boys here for some James Bond trivia game and a viewing of American Gladiators (Drew does an awesome immitation of Wolf–he howls). Evan was a good host, showing Jeffrey everything (“Here’s my lamp. That’s my cd player. This is my sippy cup by my bed in case I need a drink” and so on). They actually were pretty quiet and stayed in bed until about 7:30 the next morning. Ashlyn came back around 8:30 accompanied by Micah (I said they were inseparable). I asked how her night was. She said, “I want to go home.” I said, “Ah, Ash, did you miss me?” as I gave her a hug. She said, “No. I mean I want to go to Micah’s house.” So, I guess it was a success. They will be in mourning when these kids leave next week, as will I.
