I am fully aware that it is November 14th and that Thanksgiving is around the corner and Christmas shopping is apparently well under way.
Look what we did this past week. Yup, while the rest of you are buying your Gingerbread house kits (please tell me that you buy the kit in the box and don’t make it from scratch), we made a gingerbread haunted house. (For the record–it was a gift. I didn’t buy it on clearance after Halloween. Though, I totally would have if I had seen it!)
Lydia tried to get in on the action. She’s so cute.
You see, Halloween is a pretty big deal around here. I know that’s sorta strange. We are a Christian family, and I know that many Christian families don’t even “do” Halloween. But, not only do our kids “do” it, they love it. I think the main reason that I haven’t discouraged it at all and have engaged in conversations in April about what they are going to be for Halloween is because of this:

Fun! My five-year-old is the SAME way. He regularly goes to “school” (daycare) dressed as Spiderman, Batman, and various Transformers. I say, “what the heck?” He starts Kindergarten next year, so if he wants to wear a costume everyday, I let him.

Kelly! you are too funny! great photos, and I have to say you are the ONLY family I’ve ever seen to a *scary* gingerbread house! LOL!

I can certainly appreciate a good excuse to dress up in a costume – especially if the only line I have to memorize isl trick or treat/

So, imagine my surprise after visiting two blogs that already are showing their beautiful (from a magazine picture) Christmas trees and trimmings, I see your Halloween gingerbread house!! Too funny! I am thinking i would rather live at your house in my costume!! And I do agree, Lydia is so cute!!

So fun…we never did gingerbread houses as a kid..had not thought to do it. But I can so see Izabella lovin’ it. She said, “House Mommy!” when she saw the pictures! I told her what it was and said, “Daddy make the best gingerbread cookies–perhaps we can get daddy to make some gingerbread men and women with us this Christmas.” She thought that would be fun. Thanks for the fun ideas.
And..most of all I love your Halloween all year story. You go Evan–so smart. He knew how to make himself at ease–even at a young age. So sweet.
You’re a great mom Kelly–they are all blessed with you.

I love Halloween too! I feel bad for kids who have to miss out on the holiday. It is so much fun to be someone else for the day! How can that be bad?
