The munchkins have the summer munchies. No doubt about it. I wonder how they got through the whole school day only eating their packed lunches. It’s amazing they didn’t waste away this year. I got out the jar of pretzels and put some Nutella in a little bowl. 5 minutes later, this is what I found. At least I know those are patterns from little fingers and not tongues….or are they?
Please tell me I’m not the only mom using up the grocery budget on Chex Mix, bugles, pretzels, granola bars, goldfish, and all kinds of yummy snack packs.
Kaylee says
Oh my gosh. The summer snacking is hitting here hard….and they are used to being home all day! I seriously think they are burning twice the calories in that pool…maybe more!
Mama Amy says
I hear you. The problem is they only want to snack and not eat any meals!!! Other problem: the crumbs and clean-up are driving me bonkers! I might need to use Kaylee’s “snack pack” idea from last summer!
The Patrick family says
hee, hee, ha, ha…it’s happening here at the Patrick household as well! Gotta love those snacks.

Thankfully I implemented “you can only eat during break” at the pool otherwise we would be out of house and home!!
The Mommy Therapy says
We tend to snack all day, which is why I had to switch to different types of snacks for my kids.
I was spending so much on bags of snacks and I felt like all we ate were carbs…which happen to be my favorite anyway.
We are big on dried fruit, big bowls of washed fruit stay on the counter all day, nutella is a staple here with really grainy bread, yogurt, cheese and nuts. But my kids will still go crazy for some goldfish.
We are about to go on a road trip and snacking will definitely be our entertainment of choice!
Football and Fried Rice says
Yup – we are snackers too :-)
Stephanie says
Mmmmmm! Yum! Can I come and live with you?!

It has been proven that kids grow more and faster during the summer due to the lack of stress from school, studying and homework. Thus the need for more fuel to help the growing. So stock up Mama!
Wouldn’t it be interesting for everyone to measure their child’s height on the last day of school and then the first day of school, then post it, thus sharing the amount of growth during summer months?!
Grumpy Grateful Mom says
We are big pretzel and goldfish people. Though, I try not to buy too much Nutella. I end up eating it all!
Heather says
Sounds yummy! I’m catching up on blog reading, and the post about miss Lydia was delightful! So fun to hear about her blossoming personality!
Becki says
Love the fingerprints in the nutella! Snacks definitely eat up a big portion of the food budget here.
The Gang's Momma! says
I have three words for you: Aldi. Produce Junction. Saves our budget in the summer (the rest of the year too, but really in the summer!) like nobody’s business :)
Allows me to have a variety of healthy, non-carb type snacks mixed with the crunchy yummies like pretzels and Chex Mix and so on :)
