First day of school.
What can I say?
Evan woke up excited (“just a little bit” he said)
Drew woke up on the wrong side of the bed. The big kids had their doors decorated with streamers for the first day as we traditionally do for special days. His day is coming with starting preschool next week. That didn’t give him any consolation though. He wanted streamers…today.
My third grader and my first grader. (sigh)
All 4…with a still mopey Drew.
Mama and Evan. Good gracious, he’s getting big.
Uh oh. A yawn already just lining up to go in. She is so not a morning person.
No tears from Evan for the first time EVER!
Mark took off work, and Grammy came for the day. We all took the littles to the Please Touch Museum. (shhh….we managed to not have it mentioned to Evan and Ashlyn and I’d like to keep it that way. Don’t want them to think we just party when they go to school.)
There’s Evan doing his traditional wave coming out of school. It’s like summer never even happened. This is what he’s done every year, everyday when he comes out of school. He didn’t miss a beat today. That’s Drew blurry at the bottom waving back in between his whining and complaining about being thirsty and being hot and blah blah blah. (Sorry…he was high maintenance today with the transition of the big kids being gone and all the attention going to them.)
There’s Ashlyn. As predicted, she came right out and doted on lil Lyds. The only thing she was worried about with going to first grade was missing Lydia with being gone all day.
Apparently, Drew didn’t conquer as well as the big kids did. After his high maintenance/fussy day, he crashed. This is how we found him before dinner.
Praying we all get adjusted to this new season quickly.
And, for those of you wondering…yes, I cried. But, just a little. It is always hard for me on the first day of school. But, it’s definitely easier sending off two happy children. Years past have been 400x harder for me.
No, maybe even more than that.
When I put Evan on a school bus for kindergarten, and he was crying and clinging to me, I cried so hard walking back home. I called Mark on the walk and told him my heart had just driven away on a school bus.

I know exactly what you mean. It’s days like the first day of school when I wonder why God entrusted m with such responsibility!? How did He ever think I could “hang”??
But, everyone survived and sweet Drew will have his day soon!!!!

So glad they had a great first day! I’m sure it was a huge relief that there were no tears from Evan….that would totally break my heart too. Hopefully there will be no more tears on the first day from hear on out……except from you, and I don’t blame you for that!

Hey girl can you email me how to do the thing where the html shows up so someone can grab your button? I am starting a thing to encourage people to read the NT in 75 days and I wanted others to be able to “grab my button” but I couldn’t figure out how.
Thanks
Ginny
