I started this a long time ago. But, I’m picking it up again now. I’m really wanting to start working on it. So, if you are reading this and want to help me, I’d SO appreciate it!
To welcome new life, a tradition exists in northern China to make a Bai Jia Bei (100 good wishes quilt). Family and friends contribute a piece of cloth and a good wish for the baby. The cloth is all sewn together into a quilt, and the good wishes are put into a scrapbook for the child. The quilt symbolizes wrapping the child in the good wishes of family and friends.
I am making my own version of this quilt by making a yo-yo blanket for Lydia and a yo-yo doll for her big sister Ashlyn. Would you please consider helping me by contributing?
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Choose a 100% cotton fabric that you like. It can come from a fabric store, be something you already have, or be a piece from something special to you like a special piece of clothing, etc.
2. If the material is new, wash it and let it shrink before it is cut.
3. Cut a square measuring about 12″x12″.
4. Write your wish or blessing for Lydia. The wish can be your own thoughts or words, a favorite poem or quote, a blessing, a prayer, a favorite Scripture, etc. You can email it to me or send me a hard copy. From all of these, I will create a scrapbook for her. Please also include a picture of you or your family. You can email a digital picture to me or send me a hard copy. We would love for you to write a few words separately for Ashlyn as well so that she can have a scrapbook that goes along with her yo-yo doll.
Thanks for considering being part of this special project of preparation for both of our daughters–the one we have and the one we will have one day.

I can’t wait to see this quilt Kelly. I layed the squares I have out on the bed the other day to see visually how it’s coming a long. I had bought some “plain pink” material that I just fell in love with on my material shopping trip for others. I’m going to use that in between the squares. I think it will be so beautiful and precious. As will yours! Have fun! Keep us posted on the progress.
Love,
Lisa A

do you write on the fabric or on a seperate piece of paper/card?
The Raudenbush Family says
Girlymama – write on a separate piece of paper. The fabric will be all gathered up into a yo yo (four yo yos actually!). :)

Hi! I found your blog after you visited a friend of mine’s blog.
We adopted from China in 2005. Our daughter was 9 months old, when she became a part of our family.
She is now 4. God bless you and your beautiful family.
